This talk will describe the theory and practice of the Kurdish women’s liberation movement through its struggle against feminicide. It will trace the movement’s recent campaigns and initiatives against feminicide and violence against women in the context of colonization and political violence. In doing so, it will point to the transnational, confederal and radical democratic character of the movement and its long-term effort to build a liberationist society, free from patriarchy.

Dilar Dirik holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of Cambridge. She is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Oxford and author of the forthcoming book “The Kurdish Women’s Movement: History, Theory, Practice”.

The webinar will also be streamed live on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4F0bLO8yCa8
