Dimitrios I. Roussopoulos explains why Turkey must be investigated and challenged over its use of chemical weapons in South Kurdistan (Iraq). Roussopoulos also explains that the lack of action on the part of member states of the UN can largely be attributed to the fact that political leaders have their own ‘national interests’ to protect and promote first and foremost. He notes the problematic fact that the OPCW have not conducted their own investigations in Iraq regarding alleged chemical weapons use by Turkey. As a result of the lack of their own investigation, or that of the EU or any other UN body, there is no independent confirmation of the violation of the prohibition of the use of chemical weapons. Roussopoulos then strongly suggests a “very high-level” international delegation with medical and other experts be organised to visit the region to gather evidence and compile a report on the situation and possible use of chemical weapons.
He was interviewed by journalist Erem Kansoy for Medya Haber TV and Sterk TV. The interview was prepared with the support of the Freedom for Ocalan Campaign and the Peace in Kurdistan campaign.
