Connor Hayes speaks with Dr. Gianni Tognoni, General Secretary of the Permanent Peoples’ Tribunal, about the history of the Permanent Peoples’ Tribunal, and the role is has played in the global development of self-determination.
Dr. Tognoni is a medical doctor by profession, and has served as the General Secretary of the Permanent Peoples’ Tribunal since its founding in 1979. Dr. Tognoni also participated in the second Russell Tribunal on Latin American Dictatorships from 1973 to 1976, and the preparation of the Universal Declaration of Rights of Peoples signed in 1976 in Algiers. As a doctor, Gianni has served as the director of research at the Mario Negri Institute in Milan for more than 30 years, and has frequently worked together with the World Health Organization.
