This is a recording of an event hosted by the Peace in Kurdistan Ecology Network on 05 February 2023 on the topic of building a democratic alliance of the peoples of Iran.
Two speakers, Sonia Karimi and Shahzavar Karimzadi, will make 15-20 minute presentations, followed by a group discussion. The topics to be addressed are as follows:
Imperialism and its Ecological Impact Globally: Iran’s ecology and environment is being ravaged by the Iranian Regimes exploitation of its natural resources. This presentation will explore the changes in the region’s ecosystem and microclimate and the circumstances under which those changes have occurred. The concept of nation states has not only created tangible borders, but also borders and spaces that frame our perception of the earth and the roles that we, as communities and as individuals, partake in. This presentation will aim to cut through the divides formed by nation states and understand, how that which affects Baluchistan, Lûristan, Kurdistan and Iran has and will impact its neighbours and beyond.
Here, we might be able to truly analyse and interpret the damage of imperialism and capitalism and how democratic confederalism poses a solution.
Sonia Karimi holds a BSc in English Literature and Colonialism, is a member of the PIK Ecology steering group, and works with the Community of Free Women Rojhelat (KJAR).
Shahzavar Karimzadi is a Baloch economist, human rights activist and Senior Lecturer at the University of Hertfordshire in England.
