Connor Hayes speaks with Dr Stephen Hunt of the University of the West of England about the recently published book, of which he is the editor, entitled Ecological Solidarity and the Kurdish Freedom Movement Thought, Practice, Challenges, and Opportunities, which features a collection of contributions from writers and activists involved with the ecological issues together with the Kurdish freedom movement in the surrounding region and around the world, and includes a forward from renowned ecological thinker Prof. John P. Clark. Other topics discussed include Stephen’s background in the ecological humanities, his work with the Bristol Radical History Group, his involvement with the Kurdish freedom movement, and his view of the current status of the ecological movement in the UK and around the world.
Stephen is a writer, university academic skills coordinator, ecological activist, and radical historian. One of his main affiliations is with the Bristol Radical History Group, although today he speaks in an entirely independent capacity. His PhD in English literature was awarded for a research thesis on Romantic ecology at the University of the West of England. He continues to research within the ecological humanities. He was a founder member of the Bristol Kurdish Solidarity Network, part of the Kurdistan Solidarity Network. Stephen is the editor of Ecological Solidarity and the Kurdish Freedom Movement Thought, Practice, Challenges, and Opportunities, the first peer-reviewed book in English on the ecological pillar of democratic confederalism. This collection is scheduled for publication in October 2021 by Rowman and Littlefield, as a part of the Lexington Books series on Environment and Society.
