Asya Abdullah from Kobanê: Myth of the invincibility of ISIS collapses

After the People’s Defence Units (YPG) and the Women’s Defence Units (YPJ) had put a stop to the attacks of IS (the Islamic State) on Kobani, which had gone on since the 15th September 2014 and had been able to push the IS back on most fronts, the YPG explained that the complete liberation of Kobani would soon follow.

“Victory will be announced shortly”

Mazlum Kobanê, YPG commander on the eastern front, told ANF newsagency that in the YPG/YPJ operation of liberation which began on 23rd January, Sukulhal, Seyda Cami and Seyda streets were cleared, and the IS forces in the Kaniya Kurda area were pushed back: “The IS forces now only hold four places in this area. If our forces push forwards successfully on these four roads, the eastern front will be completely cleared and we can announce the victory of our heroic struggle against the IS in Kobanî to all our people”. Event report: Feminicide in Sinjar

Report of a seminar held at Khalili Lecture Theatre, SOAS, on Saturday 22 November, organised by Roj Women and Peace in Kurdistan Campaign.

On Saturday 22 November, representatives of several women’s organisations gathered in SOAS University for a seminar to discuss the use of sexualised violence in the recent conflicts in Iraq and Syria. In particular, the event sought to bring attention to the kidnapping of Yezidi women in the Sinjar province by ISIS fighters in August and discuss ways to campaign for their release. The seminar was introduced and chaired Isabel Käser, a PhD candidate, at the Centre for Gender Studies, SOAS, and included members of a newly emerging Women’s Alliance for Kurdistan, Iraq and Syria, a platform of UK based women’s groups who convened following the crisis in Sinjar. [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9dontIQzNR4]
The Global Rally was a tremendous success and exceeded expectations – it was huge example of global solidarity which saw hundreds of thousands of people all over the world taking to the streets to participate in demonstrations in support of the Kurds and Kobanê. It represented a clear and unambiguous call for a worldwide recognition of the “democratic autonomy project” in Rojava which promises a free and democratic future for all the peoples of Syria. Our Comrades in Boydê Village Reports

It’s the 24th day of ISIS attacks on Kobanê. While people’s defending forces in all border villages are on human shield sentry for Kobanê against attacks, everyone, everywhere in the region we live, rised up not to let Kobanê fall.

We have been on human shield sentry for around three weeks in Boydê village west of Kobanê. In the last two days, explosions and sounds of clashes got intense in Kobanê’s outer districts and town center. During this period of intense clashes, military forces increased their attacks on human shield sentries at border villages. Soldiers of Turkish State has been attacking with gas bombs to those who approach the border from both sides, including the village that we are in, which was attacked on Tuesday. Soldiers also used live ammunition from time to time in their attacks and wounded people. Continue reading “Revolutionary Anarchist Action-DAF: “Revolution will win in Kobane!””

The Kurdistan National Congress has today issued this appeal for Kobane:

Updated 23 October 2014
THE KURDISH PEOPLE ARE FACING A MASSACRE IN KOBANE!
SUPPORT THE KURDISH PEOPLE’S STRUGGLE FOR SELF-DEFENCE AND SELF-DETERMINATION IN ROJAVA!

OUR APPEAL

The UK government must recognise that the Kurdish forces on the ground, the YPG and YPJ, are the most effective fighting force against ISIS.

They have resisted ISIS advances on Kobane for over a year, were instrumental in evacuating thousands of Yezidi refugees who fled ISIS in Mount Sinjar. Continue reading “KNK Appeal for Kobane”
