Andrew Penny, is a researcher, journalist, author and activist, and has been an activist and supporter of the Kurdish Freedom Movement for 40 years.  During his recent interview conducted by journalist Erem Kansoy,  Mr Penny explains why he believes the HDP is the only serious opposition in Turkey, a fact which at least in part explains why it continues to be under attack by the ruling AKP-MHP regime in Turkey.

Mr Penny worked on the BBC ‘Panorama’ programme on Kurdistan in 1991. He has also accompanied several delegations to Kurdistan as an interpreter, most recently for the 7 June 2015 General Elections in Turkey.

This interview, which aired in January 2021, was prepared with the support of the Freedom for Ocalan Campaign and the Peace in Kurdistan Campaign in collaboration with Medya Haber TV and Sterk TV.
