1. Turkey should face international court over Yazidi genocide, report says
6 July 2022/The Guardian
Turkey should face charges in front of the international court of justice for being complicit in acts of genocide against the Yazidi people, while Syria and Iraq failed in their duty to prevent the killings, an investigation endorsed by British human rights lawyer Helena Kennedy has said.
The groundbreaking report, compiled by a group of prominent human rights lawyers, is seeking to highlight the binding responsibility states have to prevent genocide on their territories, even if they are carried out by a third party such as Islamic State (IS).

2. We need a practical handbook to build a bottom-up democracy
15 July 2022/Letters The Guardian
Many of us have been crying out for a sea change in our politics such as the one described by George Monbiot (Feeling the urge to take back control from power-mad governments? Here’s an idea, 13 July). He mentions the social ecology of Murray Bookchin, but getting to grips with that is very hard work, so I recommend reading The Dawn of Everything by David Wengrow and David Graeber, which suggests that the way things are is not inevitable and that people have lived successfully in decentralised polities for thousands of years.

3. Women Defend Rojava: An attack on one, is an attack on all!
July 242022/ANF English
Once again, the Turkish state shows its murderous and misogynistic face.
On Friday, a vehicle of the YPJ Women’s Defense Units was targeted by a Turkish drone. Jiyan Tolhilan, Roj Xabûr and Barîn Botan, who were sitting in the vehicle, were on their way back from the Women’s Revolution Forum on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Women’s Revolution in Rojava / North East Syria.

5. 10 Years of Women’s Revolution
24 July 2022/Women Defend Rojava
On the 22sd and 23rd of July 2022 the forum on 10 years women’s revolution took place in Qamishlo, Rojava. In her speech about the importance of self-defense, Jiyan Tolhildan vowed to continue to struggle for the women’s revolution in North and East Syria and Rojava. Members of Kongra Star, Women Defend Rojava, women’s movements from North and East Syria, women from everywhere in the world and the Middle East, set side by side with her, celebrating 10 years of revolution. On the same day, Turkey targeted the YPJ and YAT commander Jiyan Tolhildan, who was one of the women that defeated ISIS and made the women’s revolution reality. She fell martyr together with Barîn Botan and Roj Xabûr. The way of these revolutionary women will be followed by millions, so the women’s revolution in North and East Syria and worldwide is going to defeat the threats of all oppressive nation states, who attempt to destroy the alternative of a Democratic Nation and women’s liberation.

6. Remembering Jiyan Tolhildan
27 July2022/Bella Caledonia
Last Sunday, the United States Central Command extended condolences to three women fighters – members of their ‘SDF partners’ who were ‘killed in an attack near Qamishli, Syria, on July 22, 2022’. They omitted to mention that the perpetrator of the attack that assassinated the three women was America’s NATO ally, Turkey, and that the Turkish drone that carried it out flew through US-controlled airspace.

7. Remembering the sacrifices of our revolutionary women on the 10th Anniversary of the Rojava Revolution: Rojava and South Africa
20 July 2022/Medya News
We cannot commemorate the Rojava revolution without honouring all those who paid the supreme sacrifice, including those who have stood firm in the valiant struggle against barbarism, and ensuring the enduring revolution a decade later. This revolution in Rojava is a beacon of equality, anti-racism, humanity, freedom and dignity, within a progressive perspective that seeks to address the key challenges facing humanity at the present moment in history.

8. Why Boycotting Turkey should be a Feminist Demand
2 August 2022/Byline Times
Little is known about this inspirational women’s revolution outside small activist circles in the West even though the writ of Autonomous Administration of North-East Syria (AANES) – the region’s official title – runs across nearly one-third of Syria.
And yet, the women’s resistance is the most exciting political development of my lifetime and deserves to be more widely known, owned and acknowledged by feminists.

10. The Kurdish Women’s Movement: History, Theory, Practice | Dilar Dirik, Elif Sarican
25 July 2022/YouTube
The Kurdish women’s movement is at the heart of one of the most exciting revolutionary experiments in the world today: Rojava. Forged over decades of struggle, most recently in the fight against ISIS, Rojava embodies a radical commitment to ecology, democracy and women’s liberation. But while striking images of Kurdish women in military fatigues proliferate, a true understanding of the women’s movement remains elusive.
