Dear friend,
We hope this letter finds you well. We are contacting you to seek your support for a new initiative of the Kurdish Women’s Movement in Europe (TJK-E) in the fight against violence against women. We greatly value your work and hope that you will support our most recent initiative.
On November 25th, we started a worldwide campaign under the slogan “100 reasons to prosecute Erdoğan”. During 18 years in power, thousands of unpunished crimes have been committed by the Turkish state under the Justice and Development Party (AKP). Women have frequently been specifically targeted by the Turkish government, which on one hand, normalizes feminicide in society with its sexist mentality and policies, and on the other hand, targets political women with violence, censorship, and imprisonment. Despite a sea of evidence, these attacks have not been accounted for. This led us to launch an international campaign against the main instigator of these crimes against women.
In this first phase of our campaign we have set out to collect 100,000 signatures until March 8, 2021. This will constitute the first step in laying the foundation for the legal and technical, social, political and action work that we will carry out to achieve the prosecution and conviction of the head of state.
In a second stage, we will take our signatures to the United Nations (UN) and other concerned international institutions and agencies, along with details and evidence of the incidents of feminicide. We will highlight the life stories behind each woman killed.
Our aim is not only for those responsible for these crimes and their perpetrators to be effectively prosecuted and convicted. We want to situate these feminicides in a broader legal context to put an end to their normalization.
In this sense, we believe that feminicide should be recognized and established as a crime against humanity, comparable to genocide. This will expose the systematic nature of the policies and attacks experienced by women on a daily basis and offer an international framework to struggle against it.
Each signature obtained will bring us one step closer to achieving these objectives, which are not limited to a single territory, to a specific name or to a particular political context. As women, who are particularly affected by the sexist and feminicidal policies of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, we cannot remain silent and inactive. We will not be able to find peace until we find justice.
We count on your support. We are not only seeking signatures; we hope that you can actively support our campaign by circulating it with your contacts, publicizing it on your platforms and reaching out to us for further cooperation.
